       <p>Ida Louise Jackson was born on 12 Oct 1902 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She earned a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1922, a M.A. in 1923, and completed Ph.D. coursework at the Teachers College of Columbia University. She was a te acher and administrator.</p>

       <p>Transcript of an oral history interview with Ida Louise Jackson, speaking of her background, family and early education in Mississippi and Louisiana, before the family's move to California. She relates her experiences as an undergraduate at the University of California; the founding of Alpha Kappa Alpha, in 1921 -  the first sorority for Black women in the western United States; and her teaching experiences in Oakland, CA   [Description taken from University of California, Berkeley, Library Catalog].</p>  
    <p>The interview was conducted by Gabrielle Morris, 1984-85, as part of the University of California's Black Alumni Series undertaken by the Bancroft Library at the University of California at Berkeley. Published as <title render="italic">Overcoming Barriers in Education</title> (1990).</p>
