The Marian Library was established in 1943 by Marianists at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. The library contains a comprehensive collection of materials related to the Blessed Virgin Mary (including books, visual resources, primary source materials, and multimedia) and aims to promote study, research, and devotion. The library maintains a website, The Mary Page, which may be found at

Scope and Contents

This collection includes Marian prayer cards and leaflets in Indo-European languages. In addition, the collection includes novenas and pious instructions. The majority of cards and leaflets represent the Italic, Germanic, and Slavic language families. Western Romance languages are the most well represented language group in the collection.

The cards and leaflets include text-only materials, printed in a variety of fonts and typefaces, as well as cards and leaflets that include both text and printed graphical elements. The materials in the collection were most likely used in private devotion and represent a variety of European Marian prayers since the 19th century.
